Meet the Director:

CHECK BACK HERE LATER FOR AN UPDATE ON THE NEW STAFF!

Education: Lauren Grooters is currently in her fourth and final year at the University of Maine.  She is majoring International Affairs with a cultural athropology concentration and is also working on her minor in pre-medical studies.  She is also a recent graduate from the University of Nicosia's Semester in Europe's global studies program! (UNIC is located on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean.)

Sailing Background: Originally from Lamont, Michigan, she spent many summers on Beaver Island on her family boat trips.  Her passion for sailing began at a young age.  She began taking lessons at both Macatawa Bay Yacht Club and Saugatuck Yacht Club, and has been sailing competitively for some time now.

Sailing Career: She is a certified US Sailing Instructor, and was the race coach for SailMaine in Portland, Maine.  This will be her second year running EISS as a director and an instructor. She also has an extensive amount of first aid certifications (including advanced first aid for adults, children, and infants; and is currently working on upgrading her EMT license to becoming an intermediate!)

In her free time... she enjoys being the president of the University of Maine’s rowing team, rock climbing, skiing, traveling, scuba diving, concerts, and playing sports.
